A meeting between the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, and the de facto Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Tskhinvali region, Akhsar Jioev, was held in Moscow. The parties discussed various aspects of mutual cooperation and further perspectives.
According to Lavrov, a visit of the Chairman of the de facto parliament to Russia at the invitation of the Chairman of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, is currently being prepared. He also thanked Jioev for his objective, measured position towards Russia's military intervention in Ukraine, and his support for the referendum which was held in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republic, the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
The meeting focused on cooperation in the field of security and noted the importance of Russian military bases on the territory of the occupied Tskhinvali region. Sergey Lavrov mentioned the investment program financed by Russia, its prospects and the importance of mutual cooperation in health, culture and humanitarian spheres between the de facto republic of the Tskhinvali region and Russia, which, according to him, will further develop.
