On October 14, 2020, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, in his extensive interview to three radio stations also referred to the property issue in Abkhazia.
According to the Minister, "the property issue of ethnic Russians, including ethnic Georgians with Russian citizenship, is a subject of our constant attention in Abkhazia. I hope that when the situation in Abkhazia is more or less settled, we will return to this issue. However, it must be said that we are a little surprised that this issue remains unresolved. "
The de facto government of Abkhazia is in no hurry to solve the problem that Russian citizens face when purchasing property in Abkhazia. There are fears in Abkhazia that giving foreign citizens the right to acquire property, given the difficult socio-economic conditions, will put Russian citizens, including ethnic Georgians, in an advantageous position compared to the Abkhaz.
