On October 28, the Russkiy Mir Foundation opened a Russian center in Tskhinvali.
The center was established on the basis of the so-called South Ossetian State University, at the initiative of the rector of the same university, Vadim Tedeev, and with the support of the de facto Embassy of the Russian Federation and the Rossotrudnichestvo office in the Tskhinvali region.
The opening ceremony was attended by Marat Kulakhmetov, the Russian Ambassador to the Tskhinvali Region, Igor Kozaev (the Head of the de facto Presidential Administration), Sergey Skvortsov (the Head of the Rossotrudnichestvo Office in the Tskhinvali Region), Vadim Tedeev and Vsevolod Zheleznov (the Coordinator of the Russkiy Mir Programs in the CIS).
The de facto President of the Tskhinvali region, Anatoly Bibilov, could not attend the event (he was diagnosed with the coronavirus and is in self-isolation), so Igor Kozaev read a letter that Bibilov wrote to welcome the opening of the Russkiy Mir office in Tskhinvali. Marat Kulakhmetov noted that the Russian language and culture are of special importance to "South Ossetia", as these two countries were united under the Soviet Union. Vsevolod Zheleznov was awarded a medal for his help in establishing a representative office of the Russkiy Mir in Tskhinvali.
The opening of the Russkiy Mir office in the Tskhinvali region was planned in 2019. Vadim Tedeev and the Foundation’s management signed an agreement in Moscow.
The Russian Centre is an international cultural project carried out by the Russkiy Mir Foundation. Such centres aim at promoting the Russian language, popularizing Russian culture and raising awareness about Russia.
