Abkhazia: More than 1500 Citizens Received Medical Assistance in Russia

According to the de facto Minister of Healthcare of Abkhazia Tamaz Tsakhnakia, 50 000 Russian citizens residing in Abkhazia received Russian Federation compulsory health insurance. This number covers more than 1500 of those, who in 2018 within the insurance policy received medical assistance mainly in Krasnodar Krai, Rostov Oblast and in medical clinics of Moscow and Saint-Petersburg as well.

In 2018, de facto Ministry of Healthcare of Abkhazia signed several agreements with Russia, including agreement with the Ministry of Healthcare of Krasnodar Krai. According to Tsakhnakia, in 2018, 12 programs were adopted and implemented: Program on organizing centers to issue medical insurance policies, program on providing medicines to the citizens under specific category, program on treatment of citizens of Abkhazia outside the de facto Republic, etc. Tsakhnakia talked about Program implementation details during the meeting of de facto government of Abkhazia.

On August 8, 2017, de facto Minister of Healthcare of Abkhazia, Tamaz Tsakhnakia and Minister of Healthcare of Russia, Veronica Skvartsova, signed an agreement on cooperation in the following fields: organizing the insurance of Russian citizens permanently living in Abkhazia in terms of Russian Federation’s mandatory insurance as well as giving care to them in medical organizations on the territory of the Russian Federation. The agreement will enable Russian citizens permanently living in Abkhazia to get health insurance and medical care in Russia.
