In 2023, the “cross-border” turnover of funds carried out through banking system of Abkhazia amounted to RUB 143 billion, which is RUB 19.3 billion (15.6%) more than the same indicator in 2022.
On February 8, the press office of the de facto President of Abkhazia, Aslan Bzhania, released information, that during a working visit to Moscow, Bzhania met with a number of high-ranking Russian officials, including the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov.
According to the 2023 data, the volume of transactions through the APRA payment system of the de facto Republic of Abkhazia amounted to RUB 34.8 billion which is RUB 4.6 billion (15%) more compared to the same indicator of 2022. It should be noted that the rate of the use of the “banking system” of Abkhazia has been increasing in recent years. For example, in 2022, the volume of transactions through APRA increased by 19%, which was RUB 4.9 billion more than in 2021.
On February 5-9, Prodexpo 2024, the largest exhibition of food and beverages produced in Russia and Eastern European countries, was held in Moscow. Representatives of occupied Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region also took part in the exhibition.
On February 1, the de facto president of the occupied Tskhinvali region, Alan Gagloyev, met with the Head of the Directorate for Interregional Relations and Cultural Contacts with Foreign Countries of the Russian Presidential Administration, Igor Maslov. On January 10, an agreement on the abolition of export customs duties on fuel and lubricants between Russia and the occupied Tskhinvali region entered into force.
According to Vyacheslav Jabiev, the Head of Economic and Social Issues at the Scientific Research Institute of the occupied Tskhinvali region, exports from the Tskhinvali region to Russia increased by 43% in 2023.
On December 28, the so-called Ambassador of Abkhazia to Russia, Alkhas Kvitsinia, met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Mikhail Galuzin, who also supervises occupied regions in the ministry.
