On January 10, an agreement on the abolition of export customs duties on fuel and lubricants between Russia and the occupied Tskhinvali region entered into force.

According to Vyacheslav Jabiev, the Head of Economic and Social Issues at the Scientific Research Institute of the occupied Tskhinvali region, exports from the Tskhinvali region to Russia increased by 43% in 2023.

On December 28, the so-called Ambassador of Abkhazia to Russia, Alkhas Kvitsinia, met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Mikhail Galuzin, who also supervises occupied regions in the ministry.

On December 18, the Chairman of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, met with the chairmen of the so-called parliaments of Belarus, Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region. The “chairman” Lasha Ashuba represented the so-called parliament of Abkhazia, and Alan Alborov represented the Tskhinvali region. The meeting discussed “interparliamentary” cooperation and socio-economic issues.

On November 29, during his visit to Moscow, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the de facto Republic of Abkhazia, Inal Ardzinba, met with a deputy of the Russian Duma, Vladimir Resin.
