Igor Egorov
Former Commander of the 7th Military Base of Russian Federation in Abkhazia
Colonel Igor Egorov has been the Commander of the 7th Russian military base located in Abkhazia since 2007 while the base itself has existed since 2009. He replaced General-Major Mikhail Kosobokov on this position. There is scarce information about him in open sources; however, based on the information about the work of the Russian military base, one can presume that Egorov was actively involved in the processes unfolding at the military base and also had close ties with the de facto leaders of Abkhazia. Egorov was also an active participant of military exercises in the Southern Military District of Russian Federation.
- In May 2017, Egorov participated in sports events held for the military servicemen at the 7th military base.
- In July 2017, Egorov participated in the creation of the drone division at the 7th military base. Drones will be controlled by specially trained soldiers who were trained in Kolomna, in Moscow District drone center.
- On July 21, 2018, Egorov hosted the President of the de facto Republic of Abkhazia, Raul Khajimba and Head of the Adygea Republic, Murat Kumpilov, at the 7th military base to mark the occasion of the base’s 100th anniversary. Egorov showed the guests the modern weaponry and equipment, also speaking about military exhibits. Head of Adygea Republic also awarded Egorov with “Glory to Adygea” medal for his merits to the Republic.
- In Spring of 2019 Egorov left his position of commander of the 7th military base. He was replaced by colonel Oleg Senkov.
