Vadim Chekha

Head of the Representative Office of the Federal Agency for CIS, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Affairs in Abkhazia

General biographical information

  • Vadim Chekha was born on July 9, 1973, in Biysk (Altai Krai), the RSFSR, the Soviet Union.
  • In 1995 graduated from the V. P. Astafyev Krasnoyarsk State University, majored in history. Continued studies at the Altai State University, Faculty of Law, which he graduated in 1998. In 2006 graduated from the National Research Tomsk State University. Holds the titles of Doctor of Law and Associate Professor.
  • Holds numerous departmental awards.
  • Author of more than 200 publications on legal and economic topics.

Professional career

  • Until 2006, worked as a specialist, a deputy head of structural subdivisions in the law enforcement system, the administration of  Krasnoyarsk.
  • In 2006-2008 – the Head of the Human Resources and Legal Department at the Agency for Professional Education and Science, Krasnoyarsk Krai.
  • In 2008-2010 – the Vice-rector of the Krasnoyarsk State Pedagogical University named after V.P. Astafyev.
  • In 2011-2013 – held various positions at the Federal Service for the Supervision of Education and Science (Rosobrnadzor).
  • In 2013-2015 – the Vice-rector of the Moscow State Pedagogical University.

Career at Rossotrudnichestvo

  • In 2015-2017 – the Head of the Department for Education and Science of the Federal Agency for CIS, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Affairs.
  • In 2017-2018 – the Head of the Human Resources and Legal Department of Rossotrudnichestvo.
  • October 7, 2018 – present – the Head of the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Abkhazia, and the Counselor of the embassy of the Russian Federation to the de facto republic of Abkhazia.
  • On September 27, 2021, on the air of Sputnik Abkhazia radio, Chekha spoke about the potential of the educational system of Abkhazia. During the interview, Chekha announced that he will soon resign. He named the expiration of the three-year contract as the reason. 

Relations with Abkhazia

  • On November 2, 2018, Vadim Chekha delivered a speech at the festival Friendship of Peoples, one of the main organizers of which was Rossotrudnichestvo. The festival was held as part of a large-scale event the Russia-Abkhazia - Dialogue of Cultures.
  • On November 23, 2018, Chekha was the moderator of the round table Cinema without Borders. He delivered a speech on the topic: Russia and Abkhazia: a joint path in art. He also said that Rossotrudnichestvo is actively monitoring the filmmaking potential and readiness of Abkhazia.
  • On November 27, 2018, at the cultural festival Rendezvous with Russia.  Rendezvous with Moscow, Vadim Chekha said that the de facto republic has all the necessary resources to create the Abkhazian Hollywood.
  • On December 12, 2018, on the 25th anniversary of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, Chekha delivered a lecture on Career of a Lawyer in Modern Society at the “State University of Abkhazia.”
  • On December 18, 2018, Chekha held a press-conference where he spoke about Rossotrudnichestvo’s main directions and future prospects in the de facto republic of Abkhazia. He named humanitarian sphere, youth policy, organizing of historical-patriotic events as important directions. As he stated Rossotrudnichestvo actively promotes the spread of the Russian language in Abkhazia, popularization of the Russian literature and, in general, deepening cooperation between educational institutions of the Russian Federation and the de facto republic of Abkhazia.
  • On December 18, 2019, in an interview with radio channel Sputnik Abkhazia, Chekha stated that Rossotrudnichestvo has several roles in Abkhazia - a mediator, organizer and partner, constantly looking for areas where the Russian Federation and the de facto Republic of Abkhazia can share experiences and cooperate.
  • On December 23, 2019, Chekha held a press conference dedicated to the 10th anniversary of Rossotrudnichestvo in Abkhazia. In his speech, Chekha focused on issues such as the organization's contribution to deepening cooperation between Abkhazian and Russian educational institutions, the organization's work in the field of culture and preserving historical memory, a clear example of which is an active support for the campaign Immortal Regiment.
  • On May 27, 2020, Chekha met with the head of the de facto administration of Sokhumi, Beslan Eshba. During the meeting, the parties outlined plans for future cooperation in the fields of education, science and culture. At the end of the meeting, Chekha presented Beslan Eshba a book of the history of Russia.
  • On August 8, 2020, Chekha delivered a speech a press-conference held by the de facto Minister of Education of Abkhazia. He said that 50 Abkhazian entrants would continue their studies at Russian universities. The project was implemented with the active support of Rossotrudnichestvo.
  • On August 25, 2020, Vadim Chekha congratulated the de facto Minister of Culture, Gudisa Agrba, on the Day of International Recognition of Independence of Abkhazia. He called the event the "restoration of historical justice."
  • On September 5, 2020, Chekha attended a conference of Russian compatriots, held in Abkhazia. The participants discussed the prospects of deepening cooperation between organizations of Russian compatriots, aimed at bringing the de facto republic of Abkhazia and Russia closer in various areas of public relations.
  • On September 18, 2020, Chekha met with the head of the Gali district de facto administration, Konstantin Pilia. Issues of humanitarian cooperation in the fields of education, culture and youth policy were discussed at the meeting.
  • On September 22, 2020, Chekha attended the exhibition dedicated to the Day of the Victory of Abkhazians in the 1992-1993 Civil War. He delivered a speech at the exhibition and presented Rossotrudnichestvo diploma to the organizer of the event.
  • On September 24, 2020, Chekha also attended a meeting between delegations of the State University of Abkhazia and the North Caucasus Federal University. At the meeting the parties discussed the prospects of cooperation. He awarded the rector of the State University of Abkhazia with the honorary badge for Friendship and Cooperation.
  • On September 24, 2021, the “President,” Aslan Bzhania, awarded him with the Dignity and Glory Order, III Degree, for his significant contribution to the education and training of highly qualified personnel in Abkhazia.
