The Commander of the 4th military base of the Russian Federation in the Tskhinvali region

  • Roman Viazovsky was born on November 4, 1976.

Military career

  • In 2014, Lieutenant Colonel Viazovsky was the Chief of Staff of the 136th separate motorized infantry brigade (military unit of the 58th Combined-Arms Army of the Southern Military District) in Buynaksk (the Republic of Dagestan). On December 8 2014, Viazovsky participated in the celebration of the 21st anniversary of the establishment of the 136th separate motorized infantry  brigade in Buynaksk.
  • In 2015, Viazovsky was the commander of the operative unit of the motorized infantry brigade of the Southern Military District. In April 2015, Viazovsky participated in military exercises of artillerymen held in Dagestan.
  • In 2017 - Viazovsky was awarded the rank of Colonel.
  • In 2017-2020, he was the commander of the 19th separate motorized infantry brigade (S/N 20634). (The brigade is permanently deployed in Vladikavkaz. The military unit comprises the 58th Combined-Arms Army of the Southern Military District). Aleksandr Dvornikov, the Commander of the Southern Military District, and Marat Kulakhmetov, the Russian "ambassador" to the Tskhinvali region, were commanders of the military unit at different times.
  • On July 22 2017, the 95th anniversary of the establishment of the 19th separate motorized infantry brigade was celebrated in Vladikavkaz. A solemn concert was held on the territory of the brigade. Viazovsky also congratulated the brigade on the anniversary.
  • On February 22 2019, celebration dedicated to the Day of Defender of the Fatherland was held at the Suvorov Military School in the North Caucasus. Viazovsky also participated in the event.

Relations with the Tskhinvali region

  • In October 2020, Viazowsky was appointed the Commander of the 4th military base. He replaced Aleksandr Kravtsov, who had been the commander of the base since 2016.
  • On November 18, 2020, the Russian Deputy Defense Minister, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, visited the 4th military base of the Russian Federation in the Tskhinvali region. At the Dzartsemi military training ground Yevkurov got acquainted with the progress of preparation for the new academic year. Particular attention was paid to checking the readiness of a tactical field, tanks and infantry combat vehicles, tank and vehicle tracks. Viazovsky briefed Evkurov on the modern weapons and infrastructure of the base.
  • On November 24, 2020, the de facto President of the Tskhinvali region, Anatoly Bibilov, met with the Commander of the 58th General Army of the Russian Federation, Major General Mikhail Zusko. The meeting was also attended by the Acting Minister of Defense of the Tskhinvali Region, Ibragim Gaseev, and Viazovsky. Zusko introduced Viazovsky. Bibilov congratulated Viazovsky on his new appointment.
  • On February 1, 2021, the 4th military base of the Russian Federation in the Tskhinvali region marks the 12th anniversary of its establishment. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the de facto government and law enforcement agencies, commanders of the 58th Army of the Southern Military District and veterans of the Great Patriotic War. Viazovsky delivered a speech at the event. According to him, the 4th military base is “a guarantee of peace and security in the region.”
  • The Army-2021 military-technical exhibition started on August 27 and lasted until August 29 at the 4th military base of the Russian Federation in the Tskhinvali region. During the exhibition, combat and special equipment, as well as various types of weapons were demonstrated. Viazovsky, said that holding the exhibition would become a tradition. According to him, „those children who viewed the equipment on display today will one day return to the 4th military base to perform military service.“
  • On February 15, 2022 the Tskhinvali region commemorated the day of Internationalist Soldiers. As part of the solemn event, the memorial to Soldiers was decorated with flowers. The event was attended by war veterans, de facto authorities of the region, military personnel of the 4th military base of Russia, students, schoolchildren, as well as by the Russian “Ambassador,” Marat Kulakhmetov, Viazovsky, and the de facto President Anatoly Bibilov.
