Aleksey Trubetski

Former Head of the Border Division of the Federal Security Service of Russian Federation in Abkhazia

From October 2018, Head of the Border Division of the Federal Security Service of Russian Federation in Abkhazia, Colonel Aleksey Trubetski is overseeing the “defense” of the occupation line. On April 30, 2009, an agreement on Joint Measures for the Defense of the State Border of the Republic of Abkhazia was signed between the President of Russia and the de facto President of Abkhazia. This day is considered to be foundational for the Border Division of the Federal Security Service of Russian Federation in Abkhazia. The responsibility of the Division is to protect land and maritime borders of the occupied region.

Beginning from 2009, the Division has detained thousands of Georgian citizens for the violation of the so-called border crossing regime. The Division directly participates in the closing down of the border crossing points on the occupation line, erecting physical barriers along it and the demarcation of the so-called border, which has the largest negative effect on the daily lives of Georgian population of Gali.

General Biographic Information

  • Aleksey Trubetski graduated from Dzherzinski Higher Border Command School in Almaty.
  • In 2001 he graduated from Federal Border Service Academy.
  • He has been given a title of Major General.

Military Career

  • After graduating from the Border Command School, Trubetski served in the Pacific Ocean border district.
  • After graduating from the Border Service Academy, throughout his career he served in multiple border divisions, including in the Far East, North Caucasus and on the border with kraine . By 2013, he was the Deputy Head of Sochi Division in Krasnodar Krai.

Relations with Abkhazia

  • On September 3, 2018, the Head of the Border Division of the Federal Security Service of Russian Federation in Abkhazia, General-Major Dimitri Yudin presented Trubetski to the de facto President of Abkhazia, Raul Khajimba, as the Acting Head of the Division. Yudin worked on this position since March 24, 2015 and left it due to his appointment elsewhere.
  • On April 30, 2020, the 11th anniversary of the establishment of the Border Division of the Russian Federation Federal Security Service was marked in Abkhazia. De facto president of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhania congratulated Trubetski on the anniversary.
  • On June 17, 2020, de facto president of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhania met with the Russian representatives in Abkhazia, including Trubetski, Russian „ambassador“ to Abkhazia Aleksey Dvinianin, Commander of the 7th Military Base of Russian Federation in Abkhazia Colonel Oleg Senkov, the „embassy“ employees – Aleksandr Oparin and Vladislav Nechiporenko, representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation in Abkhazia Stanislav Apsava. From Abkhazian side the meeting was attended by the Head of de facto Presidential Administration Alkhas Kvitsinia. Various aspects of bilateral cooperation were discussed  at the meeting.
