On May 21, the Memorial Complex to the Defenders of the Fatherland was opened in Tskhinvali.

The complex is dedicated to all those who died defending the region in 1989-2008. It was constructed under the Russian investment program, which is aimed at promoting the socio-economic development of the so-called “Republic of South Ossetia.”

The ceremony was attended by the de facto President of the Tskhinvali region, Anatoly Bibilov, a delegation of the Russian Federation, the Russian “ambassador” to the Tskhinvali region, Marat Kulakhmetov, the “Ambassador” of Abkhazia, military servicemen of the 4th military base and others. They laid flowers at the memorial.

In his speech, Bibilov expressed his gratitude to Russia, “thanks to which” peace was established in the Tskhinvali region.
