The Tskhinvali region marked the 29th anniversary of the start of the “peacekeeping” operation. As part of the event the Defenders to the Fatherland memorial complex was decorated with flowers. The President of the region, Anatoly Bibilov, the Russian Ambassador, Marat Kulakhmetov, as well as representatives of de facto ministries and others attended the celebration.
Later, Bibilov met with veterans of the “Peace” Forces in the conference hall of the “Republican” library. He thanked Marat Kulakhmetov, who commanded the “Peace” Forces in 2004-2008. A solemn concert was held at the end of the event.
The “peacekeeping” operation in the Tskhinvali region started on July 14, 1992. A joint control mission was established under the Dagomys (Sochi) Agreement and Russian, Georgian and Ossetian peacekeepers were deployed in the region. The operation was completed in August 2008.
