Russian Sappers Working in Tskhinvali Region

Group of sappers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation paid the 4th visit to Tskhinvali Region with humanitarian mission. Specialists of „Leader“, the center of the Ministry for conducting especially risky rescue operations, cleared Tskhinvali Region of mines.

In 2016-2018 clearing of explosive devices was conducted three times. Specialists cleared totally 100 hectares of the territory and found more than 700 unexploded ammunition. 1.6 hectares of territory at adjacent heights to Dzari settlement was cleared by means of unmanned aerial vehicles. The sappers will stay in Tskhinvali Region for 80 days and check 20 hectares of the territory.

At this stage four explosive substances were found and defused. Adjacent territory to Dzari settlement is considered as priority direction, as there were located military positions until the war of 2008. According to Russian specialists it was the most difficult area.
