On May 17, 2019, so-called Academy of Science of Abkhazia signed agreement with the Russian Foundation for Basic Research. The agreement aims at developing cooperation between the Scientific Centers of Russia and Abkhazia and support talented scientists in Abkhazia.

According to Sergey Bebia, the Vice-president of so-called Academy of Science of Abkhazia, support envisages financing of joint scientific projects. As Bebia stated, in 2018, 14 projects have been financed in the direction of humanitarian and natural sciences, including one for preserving forests in Abkhazia. According to Vladislav Pachenko, representative of Russia, Russia will allocate 10 million RUB for implementation of above projects.
