Alan Alborov Met with Vyacheslav Volodin in Moscow

2022 / 12 / 19

On December 15, during his working visit to Moscow, The Chairman of the de facto parliament of the Tskhinvali region, Alan Alborov, met with the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Volodin.

The meeting turned out to be interesting in terms of developing future cooperation between the parties, since a new “inter-parliamentary” initiative - the establishment of a bilateral commission was launched, and the corresponding agreement was signed.

As Volodin explained, the commission will be a kind of supervisory body, which will increase the quality of coordination of the relevant committees of the “parliaments” of Russia and the Tskhinvali region, although the parties have not specified exactly when the commission will start functioning and how it will be staffed.

The new initiative is aimed at deepening cooperation and strategic partnership between the parties.

“We highly appreciate Russia's support, especially when it has to withstand the brunt of both the miliary operation and the process of restoring infrastructure in the liberated territories amid the military, economic and informational pressure from the collective West” – Alborov stated.

Volodin said that the partnership of the Tskhinvali region and Russia is “based on the principles of equality, good neighborliness and mutual respect.” He highlighted the common history of the two “states,” which, in his estimation, is a sign of mutual understanding and trust.

Early this month, Volodin signed a similar agreement with the “Speaker” of Abkhazia's de facto parliament, Lasha Ashuba. Although the specific details of the agreements differ for the regions, the recent activation of tripartite efforts to deepen the cooperation between the State Duma and the “legislative bodies” of the occupied regions of Georgia is worth noting.
