“Interparliamentary” Memorandum

2023 / 10 / 10

On October 9, the Chairman of the de facto parliament of the Tskhinvali region, Alan Alborov, and the Chairman of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, met in Moscow. At the meeting, the parties signed a memorandum that will “enable more active dialogue between MPs.”

The memorandum envisages the creation of an “inter-parliamentary” commission which will discuss issues of cooperation between the de facto republic and Russia. Alborov noted that previously the parties did not properly use this format, which, he said, will be corrected.

At the end of the meeting, Alborov invited Volodin to the occupied region, and in response, Volodin invited his “counterpart” to the Duma for an annual conference on the influence of political parties and factions on the inter-parliamentary relations of the CIS member states. The conference will be held in December.
