Visit of the Chairman of the “Parliament” of Abkhazia to Moscow

2023 / 11 / 24

On November 22, during his visit to Moscow, the speaker of the de facto parliament of Abkhazia, Lasha Ashuba, met with members of the Russian Federal Council. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, Konstantin Kosachev, the Chairman of the Committee on Defense and Security, Vladimir Bulavin and his first deputy, Vladimir Chizhov. The members of the delegation of the de facto republic were also the Chairman of the so-called Parliamentary Committee on Defense and National Security, Temur Shergelia, and the Counselor of the so-called Embassy in Russia, Madina Avidzba.

The meeting reviewed the results achieved in 2023. Kosachev noted that in October of last year an agreement was reached to intensify “inter-parliamentary” cooperation, which allows the parties to exchange views on “the results which the agreement brought to the interests of the nations of the two states.”

Kosachev noted that the year 2023 was a productive year for cooperation between the de facto republic and Russia and cited a meeting held between the commissions of the so-called parliament and the Council in September.

Ashuba said that the “inter-parliamentary” commission still has to work on issues, among which the harmonization of “legislations” is a priority.
