On July 2, a Russian Ministry of Economic Development delegation visited the Tskhinvali region. The delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister Dmitry Volvach, who supervises the direction of the occupied regions and frequently visits Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region.
Volvach’s responsibility is to monitor the progress of Russian-financed projects. This is his first visit to the Tskhinvali region this year.
The delegation of the Ministry of Economic Development included: Anton Melnik, the Head of the Division for Special Programs and Projects, Maxim Smirnov, the Head of the Division of Budget Investments and Investment Support to the Republic of South Ossetia, and Petr Vorontsov, the Deputy Director of the Department for the Implementation of Special Projects.
On July 2, the Russian delegation inspected the Mziugomi Children's Camp construction in the Java region. A meeting was also held with the de facto President Alan Gagloyev where Volvach noted that the Russian budget provides funds for the implementation of projects for the next 3 years.
On July 3, the de facto government held an expanded meeting on socio-economic cooperation. According to Volvach, specialists from the Ministries of Education and Health work in the region and share their experience with local counterparts. As he stated, very difficult work related to water supply will be carried out in the next two years. He also noted that construction of the “legendary school N2” had begun. Volvach called the transition of the Tskhinvali region to the customs administration standards of the Eurasian Economic Union an important event.
