With the support of Russian private investors and the Russian government, a canning factory was opened in the village of Pris of the occupied Tskhinvali region.
The ceremonial opening of the factory was attended by the de facto president, Alan Gagloyev, and the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia, Dmitry Volvach, who supervises the occupied regions. The region has high hopes for the investment project which, according to reports, will employ 200 people at the initial stage.
Volvach also visited the facilities, the construction of which is being carried out within the framework of the Russian-financed investment program promoting the socio-economic development of the region. Volvach focused on the work of the Ir-Basalt company whose factory was built with Russian funding, however, it has not yet started production.
In 2012, geological surveys confirmed the existence of basalt deposits in the villages of Tsru and Kroza (located in the occupied Java region). In 2014, the company was granted permission to build a factory in the village of Pris, near Tskhinvali. As per the project, the company was to build a „basalt continuous fiber production plant“ where, in addition to continuous fiber, rebar, and basalt reinforcing ropes would have been produced. Considering the amount of investments made in the project, it is given great importance both in Tskhinvali and in Moscow, and delegations of the Russian Federation often pay visits to the factory.
In addition, Gagloyev and Volvach discussed the 23rd meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission of the de facto Republic and Russia, which will be held in Moscow at the end of the year. Attention was paid to the issue of the energy supply of the de facto republic, harmonization of customs regulations and revenue „legislation.“
