Russian „Embassy“ Representatives in Abkhazia Observed Abkhazian „Elections“

Due to Coronavirus restrictions, Russian MPs could not observe illegitimate presidential elections in Abkhazia held on March 22. However representatives of the Russian Embassy in Abkhazia monitored the „elections“. 

The embassy spokesman Maxim Litvinov stated at special press conference that „during the presidential „elections“ in Abkhazia no significant violations were observed at the polling stations.“ Embassy eight employees observed the elections at more than 40 polling stations: in Sokhumi and Sokhumi, Gagra and Gulripshi districts. According to Litvinov, observers noted that the voting event was well organized, there was voters’ high turnout and positive attitude among commission members and voters.

According to the „embassy“ Press Secretary Denis Lavrikov, all disinfection measures were followed at the polling stations.

Aslan Bzhania, the leader of the opposition bloc, received 57% of the votes and won the illegitimate elections.
