In Abkhazia, as a part of joint exercises on command and control of air defence forces and air defence systems, anti-aircraft gunners of the Southern military District of the Russian Federation destroyed more than 60 air targets of conditional enemy.

After the communication and command system set up, the units performed tasks of destroying enemy aviation and reconnaissance. Modern radar stations were used for target surveillance. Additional surveillance of airspace was carried out with the latest small-sized radar stations, including portable radio station –„Garmon“. More than 500 servicemen participated in the exercises and up to 60 units of military equipment involved, with anti-aircraft missile complexes „S-300“, „Osa-Akm“ and „Strela-10“ among.
