Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali Region Celebrate the Defender of the Fatherland Day

Events dedicated to the Defender of the Fatherland Day were held in Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region. The Defender of the Fatherland Day is celebrated on February 23. This date commemorates those soldiers who served in the Soviet Army during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).

On February 22, representatives of the “Ministry” of Culture, internationalist militants, schoolchildren and others attended a solemn event at the Anakharsis Republican Library in the Tskhinvali region. The schoolchildren were given reports on the formation and history of the de facto Armed Forces in the region and presented souvenirs at the end of the event.

On the same day, several middle grade schoolchildren of the Tskhinvali N1 school joined the Razzagont organization. Earlier, this organization united the pioneers. Today, it is aimed at developing patriotic thinking among young people and fostering loyalty to the “homeland.”

On February 23, the “President,” Anatoly Bibilov, laid flowers at the memorial to the victims of the war. The event was attended by the  Russian “Ambassador,” Marat Kulakhmetov, servicemen of the 4th  military base, representatives of de facto ministries and others.

As for Abkhazia, children of military servicemen of the 7th military base performed thematic songs and dances and staged performances on February 23.
