On March 13, 2020, de facto President of the Tskhinvali Region Anatoly Bibilov met with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin, in Moscow. At the meeting, Putin positively assessed bilateral relations.

He said that „I know that you (Bibilov) also have planned meetings in administration and government. Relationships in general are developing along an upward line - well. Last year there was an increase in turnover, was implemented investment program worth of 4.2 billion RUB.“

This was Bibilov and Putin’s fifth meeting. The first meeting was held in Sochi on May 2, 2017, the second meeting - in November of the same year in Moscow. The third meeting was dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Tskhinvali Region independence recognition by Russia on August 24, 2018. The fourth meeting was held on March 5, 2019.
