The Ministry of North Caucasus Affairs was abolished officially on September 9, 2020. The Ministry of Economic Development took over the abolished ministry’s responsibility for the development of the North Caucasus Federal District and the implementation of relevant state programs until 2025.

The Ministry also supervises the occupied regions of Georgia. Mikhail Babich, the First Deputy Minister, oversees the direction of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region at the Ministry of Economic Development.
