On December 30, 2018, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin wished Merry Christmas and Happy upcoming 2019 to the leaders of foreign countries. Putin also sent congratulations to de facto leaders of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali Region.

It is noteworthy that Putin congratulated all the leaders of the post-Soviet countries except the Baltic states, Ukraine and Georgia.
