Karasin Talked about Geneva Discussions

On May 20, 2019, Grigory Karasin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Curator to Post-Soviet countries, had a phone conversation with Cihan Sultanoglu, Assistant Secretary-General, United Nations Representative to the Geneva International Discussions. At the meeting the parties exchanged views on incident prevention and incident joint response mechanisms at de facto administrative border. Parties also discussed the issues of preparation for the next round of Geneva Discussions, planned in July.

The decision on the formation of the Geneva International Discussions format was adopted according to the 12 August 2008 Ceasefire Agreement. From that period the Geneva discussions are held four times a year. Apart of Russia and Georgia, representatives of USA and co-chairs of OSCE, EU and UN also participate in the discussions, involving representatives from Tskhinvali and Sukhumi as well.
