Alan Alborov Visits Russia

2024 / 03 / 21

On March 15-17, the Chairman of the so-called parliament of the Tskhinvali region, Alan Alborov, paid a visit to Russia. He led a delegation of representatives of regional Central Election Commission observing the Russian presidential elections in Russia.

During the visit, Alborov met with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council, Grigory Karasin. Alborov spoke about the meeting at his press conference.

At the press conference, Alborov noted that the elections in Russia were democratic and transparent. “Western countries can learn from Russia how to conduct elections democratically,” he said. The Russian presidential elections were also held in the occupied regions of Georgia, including in the Tskhinvali region, where Putin won a record 97% of the total votes. Alborov confirmed the election results at the press conference.

As Alborov stated during the meeting with Karasin, Russian senators were interested in the processes taking place in the region and issues in which the de facto republic needs support. At the meeting, attention was paid to the issue of harmonization of the “legislations,” which, according to Alborov, is currently a priority for the region. It was also mentioned that the so-called “parliament” adopted a record number of laws last year, which once again indicates the importance of the “legislation” harmonization for the region.

The meeting also discussed the issue of supporting the participants in Russia's military aggression in Ukraine from the Tskhinvali region. According to Alborov, the Russian government is trying to support the fighters participating in the aggression with various social assistance which he wants to be extended to the ethnic Ossetian fighters as well. As of March 25, 2024 reports in open sources, a total of 40 fighters from the Tskhinvali region were killed in the Russian military aggression in Ukraine.
