General biographical information

  • Aleksey Sukhov was born on June 20, 1962, in Chelyabinsk, RSFSR, Soviet Union.
  • 1979-1983 – cadet at the Chelyabinsk Higher Tank Command School.
  • In 1991 – graduated from the Military-Diplomatic Academy.
  • In 2002 – graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.
  • In 2012 – was awarded the rank of the Actual State Councillor of Russia 2nd Class.
  • Sukhov is a Major General of the Reserve, Police Major General of the Reserve.

Military career

  • 1979-2010 – served in the Armed Forces.
  • 1983-1987 - Commander of the Tank Platoon and Company in the military district of Belarus.
  • 1991-1992 - Officer of the Main Division of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.
  • 1992-1995 – Assistant of the Military Attaché at the embassy in the People's Republic of China.
  • 1995-1997 - Senior Officer, Chief of the Main Division of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.
  • 1997-2000 – Senior Assistant of the Military Attaché at the embassy in the People's Republic of China.
  • 2002-2004 - Deputy Chief of the Main Division of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.
  • 2004-2008 - Defense Attaché in the People's Republic of China.
  • 2008-2009 - Deputy Chief of the Main Division of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.
  • 2009-2010 - Head of the Main Division of International Military Cooperation at the Ministry of Defense.

Professional career

  • 2010-2011 - Assistant to the Director of the Federal Drug Control Service.
  • 2011-2012 – Director of the Department of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Energy.
  • 2012-2018 – Sukhov was the Deputy of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President in the Volga Federal District and oversaw domestic politics and law enforcements. Mikhail Babich was the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President during this period. On the day of Sukhov’s dismissal, his older brother, Vladimir Sukhov, who was the Director of Ulyanovskgosexpertiza, was detained in Ulyanovsk. The detainee was accused of fraud and office abuse.
  • 2018-2019 -  Envoy at the Russian embassy in Belarus. During this period, Mikhail Babich was the Russian ambassador to Belarus.
  • 2019-2020 – Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development. During the same period, in June, 2019, Mikhail Babich was appointed Deputy Minister of Economic Development.
  • In April, 2020, he was appointed Director of the Department of Special Programs and Projects of the Ministry of Economic Development. 
  • On September 18, 2020, Sukhov was replaced by Vitaly Gudin.

Relations with Abkhazia

  • On July 28, 2020, the de facto Prime Minister of Abkhazia, Aleksander Ankvab, met with the Abkhaz-Russian working group, chaired by Sukhov. The purpose of the working group's visit was to assess the financial situation in Abkhazia and the targeted use of the Russian financial assistance. The working group comprised of representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Justice, the Treasury, the Central Bank, and RosRegister. The working group visited construction of the most important facilities under the investment program.
