In January 2020, curators to Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali Region at the Russian Government and the Presidential Administration resigned. Rashid Nurgaliyev and Vladislav Surkov played key role in resolving political crisis in Abkhazia. In 2020, intensity of practical exercises at the 7th Russian military base in Abkhazia will be increased by 10%. The article provides an overview of the major events that took place in January 2020 in connection with the Kremlin's policy in Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region.
The year 2019 started tragically for Russian citizens in Abkhazia.
