On May 29, 2019, Vyacheslav Bitarov, Head of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, visited Tskhinvali. Bitarov participated in the event dedicated to the 27th anniversary of the declaration of independence of so-called “South Ossetia Republic“. Bitarov met with Anatoly Bibilov, de facto President of Tskhinvali Region, and discussed cooperation issues.

On May 27-28, 2019, Anatoly Bibilov, de facto President of Tskhinvali Region, visited Moscow. Part of his working visit was to meet with Sergey Shoygu, Minister of Defence of Russian Federation.

2019 is overloaded with anniversaries for Border Divisions of Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation dislocated in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region. This year, Border Divisions will celebrate 10th anniversary of their activities in occupied regions of Georgia and 101th anniversary of establishing Border Service of Russia.

On May 27, 2019, Oleg Govorun, former Head of the Directorate for Cross Border Cooperation was appointed as Deputy Director at DOM.RF. Govorun left directorate in April. In 2013-2019 he was curator to Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region.

Tskhinvali Region started to celebrate day of the Slavic Writing and Culture. On this day ceremonial events are held in different countries every year. In connection with the Slavic writing and culture day, the region teachers of Russian language and literature conduct general school activities during the week.

Spiritual board of Adygea Republic and Krasnodar Krai Muslims, guided by the board Deputy Mufti Ibragim Shkhalakhov, visited Abkhazia with charity purposes. At Gudauta and Sukhumi mosques the guests had fast dinner – iftar. The charity event was held by the donation from Adygea and Krasnodar Krai Muslims. The mentioned event is the result of the agreement signed on April 29, 2019 between the Muftis of Abkhazia and Adygea and Krasnodar Krai.  

Znaur Gassiev, de facto ambassador of Tskhinvali Region to Russian Federation, discussed cooperation prospects and intergovernmental agreement project with Alexander Gusev, Governor of Voronezh Region. The meeting was held in Voronezh.

According to the directive of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, de facto ambassador of Tskhinvali Region to Russia, Znaur Gassiev, was awarded with the badge for “Interacting“. Award ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, on May 21. Grigory Karasin, Deputy to Lavrov, presented the award to Gassiev.

Anatoly Bibilov, de facto President of Tskhinvali Region, met with the group of sappers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation. Specialists of  „Leader“, the center of the Ministry for conducting especially risky rescue operations, conduct clearing of explosive devices on the territory adjacent to Dzari Settlement, Tskhinvali Region. According to the group representatives 74 units of explosive devices have been detected and destroyed.

On May 23, 2019, Anatoly Bibilov, de facto President of Tskhinvali Region, discussed the issue of implementation of investment program, financed by Russia, at the meeting with Igor Koshin, Deputy Minister of North Caucasus Affairs of the Russian Federation. Koshin, curator at the Ministry to Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region, paid three day working visit to Tskhinvali.

On May 21, 2019, Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation accepted agreement reached between de facto President of Abkhazia and the Opposition on postponing date of illegitimate presidential elections, stated political scientist Alexey Chesnakov - close associate to the Directorate for Cross-Border Cooperation. The Directorate is the curator to Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region.

On June28-30, 2019, at the Southern Military District of Russia, military-technical forum will be held where combat capabilities of modern weapons and military equipment will be represented. Apart of Russian Districts and Armenia, military-technical forum will take place at Russian Military bases dislocated in Tskhinvali Region and Abkhazia.

On May 20, 2019, Grigory Karasin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Curator to Post-Soviet countries, had a phone conversation with Cihan Sultanoglu, Assistant Secretary-General, United Nations Representative to the Geneva International Discussions. At the meeting the parties exchanged views on incident prevention and incident joint response mechanisms at de facto administrative border. Parties also discussed the issues of preparation for the next round of Geneva Discussions, planned in July.

Specialists from the representation of the Russian Agricultural Center (rosselhoscenter) In Krasnodar Krai of the Russian Federation, will teach the population of Abkhazia how to safely use chemicals against Asian Bug. The specialists started meetings from Gudauta District and taught rural population how to safely use chemicals. This is the third visit of Russian specialists in the district. Gudauta District has already received 600 liters of chemicals.

On May 17, 2019, in Tskhinvali, parliament of the sixth convocation held a ceremonial meeting to mark completion of its work. Guests from de facto Republic of Abkhazia, separatist regimes of Ukraine Donetsk and Lugansk and North Ossetia Republic-Alania attended the session. Petr Gasiev, the Speaker of de facto Parliament hosted them.
